India Trade Promotion Organization conducted a Contact Promotion Program for Computer Software and Services providers in the US from November 1 -16, 2000. The delegation was in Houston on Nov. 1 and 2, where the Consulate-General of India hosted a two-day seminar.

Mr. Rinzing Wangdi, Consul General of India, and Dr Vishnu Hade, Deputy Consul, welcomed the delegates and the speakers. Mr. Jagdip Ahluwalia, Secretary of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, moderated the discussion.

The representatives of various Houston-based companies made brief introductions and then answered questions from the visiting delegation. BMC Software was represented by Pankaj Dhume, Director, Research and Development, Keith Knapp, Director of Outsourcing, and Shannon Slocum, Project Manager.

Mr. Dhume said that Houston-based BMC Software was one of the larger companies dealing only in software. He explained that BMC develops software for the mainframe as well as for open systems. BMC’s primary area is systems management, which includes applications systems and technologies.

Mr. Knapp pointed out that BMC was keen on building up partnerships to provide benefits on both sides. Mr. Slocum, who is with the Resource and Project Management team, explained that the company manages the outsourcing and the supply for 100 contractors. He added that they were on the lookout for people with mainframe experience. He said that resources were very hard to get in the US, whereas India has a very high supply of highly skilled workers. Mr. Knapp reiterated that BMC was looking for commercial software support.
