The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston
(IACCGH) had a "Call to Arms" meeting on
Tuesday the 11th to denounce terrorism
against this country. We, the people of Indian origin,
the Indo-Americans, decry and condemn the violence and
murders committed September 11, 2001 by the terrorists.
When Gujrat and Kutch suffered the devastating
earthquake on February 28, Congressmen, Congresswomen,
Senators, Mayors and ordinary citizens around America
came forward to support our cause of sending help to
India. Today we have been hit at home and we need the
same resolve, mobilization and intensity to help our
fellow Americans. The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce
and the Indo-American community of Greater Houston and
across the nation are calling all of us who call this
country home to come forward.
The Chamber will use all its resources to get the
Indian population involved in the aid of citizens
affected by this horrific act of terrorism. Other
organizations like the Institute of Engineers, Indian
Doctors Association, Indian Culture Center,
Indo-American Charity Association, etc. are also being
contacted to get involved in the relief efforts. There
is a concentrated effort being made to show our
patriotism towards the United States, a country, which
is our home.
The IACCGH is also contacting other Chambers of
Commerce in Tampa, Georgia and Dallas to join Houston in
a nationwide effort to mobilize Indians to show our
support and denounce as a community any act of
terrorism.
IACCGH Blood Drive: The Chamber is sponsoring a
blood drive at the M.D. Anderson Blood Bank, at 7000
Fannin, Ste. 170, on Saturday the 15th from
10.00 a.m. till 2.00 p.m., to bolster the short supply
of blood. Every effort is being made to involve the
youth in this altruistic cause. Students at Rice
University and University of Houston are being called
upon to donate blood and help with relief efforts. For
additional information please contact the blood bank at
713-794-1362 or 713-792-7777.
Prayer Meetings: There are special prayer
meetings being held in the Meenakshi Temple, BAPS &
the Gandhi center for the victims. In this adopted
homeland, Indians everywhere are showing their support
in any way they can.
