INDIAN AMBASSADOR VISITS MAHINDRA AMERICAS

Indian Ambassador to the US H.E. Navtej Sarna’s first visit to Houston began with a tour of the Mahindra Americas assembly plant and distribution facility. The tour was organized by the Chamber. President and CEO Mani Iyer welcomed the delegation which included Consul General Dr. Anupam Ray, Bob Pertierra from the Greater Houston Partnership and representatives from Governor Greg Abbott’s and Mayor Sylvester Turner’s office. IACCGH Past Presidents Sanjay Ramabhadran, Ashok Garg, Joya Shukla and President Allen Richards were also present along with other Chamber members for the facility tour.

President Mani Iyer underscored the instrumental role played by the Chamber and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett in the company’s decision to expand their operations in the County. Mahindra, USA started operations in 2009-10 and since has grown from their 90,000 sq. feet facility to a 200,000 sq. ft. with satellite offices across US, Canada and Mexico. It is today the third largest selling tractor in the US with over half a billion dollars in sales and expected to double its revenue to $1 billion in the next three years. President Iyer emphasized that Mahindra is not here “to outsource jobs. We are here to be local, to cooperate with universities and community colleges, and to promote development.”
