IACCGH Business forum a BIG success

The “sold out” IACCGH Gala 2003, scheduled for June 7th will celebrate the achievements of IACCGH. The Gala offers our members a greatly enhanced ecosystem and opportunity to network with business leaders from across the country.

Indian Cabinet Minister Shatrughan Sinha will be the keynote speaker and will be joined by guest speaker Dr Tom Brown, VP of M D Anderson Cancer Center The Head of AIIMS Delhi Cancer Center Dr Vinod Kochupillai and her colleague Dr Atul Sharma and Dr K T Dinshaw (Director, Tata Cancer Mumbai) are arriving from India to join us at the Gala. Susan Ralston from the office of Karl Rove (Senior Advisor to President Bush ) is flying in from Washington . Other distinguished guests include

  • The Head of AIIMS Delhi Cancer Center Dr Vinod Kochupillai and her colleague Dr Atul Sharma and Dr K T Dinshaw (Director, Tata Cancer Mumbai) are arriving in Houston on June 4th for meetings with M D Anderson in preparation for possible sister hospital agreements between Houston and India.M D Anderson Cancer Center is arranging a “Grand Rounds” visit at their hospital. on June 6, 2003 at 12:00 Noon. Chairman:Sen Pathak, Ph.D., F.N.A.Sc., Professor emeritus, UTMDACC “Cancer in India with Western and Eastern Approaches of Treatment”The visitors from India will also meet the leadership at M D Anderson and will discuss how to go forward in building the research bridge the IACCGH is facilitating.Dr John Mendelsohn and Dr Tom Brown of M D Anderson are planning an October 2003 trip to India and the Chamber sees this as a positive step in the efforts to build a strong bond between research in the two countries. The Chamber hopes to see strong sister hospital relationships emerge from these efforts.The Chamber has succeeded in leveraging the network by forging alliances with local minority Chambers of Commerce, Indo American Chamber in Tampa, Dallas and Atlanta and with the US India Business Council in Washington DC. The Chamber also has an Alliance with IACC (Indo American Chamber of Commerce-the largest bi-lateral Chamber in India). Another success IACCGH has recently had is the formation of the Math Think Tank with University of Houston and St. Stephen’s college in Delhi in a cooperative program. Other programs promoting networking and knowledge sharing have been a golf tournament and a monthly radio program showcasing Indo-American success stories. In the month of April and May the Chamber has organized seminar series focusing on Leadership skills and business practices. The first of these series was May 8th and the topic was “Leadership in turbulent times” by Michael Brezina of HP. The Chamber feels that to be a global leader partnering with India makes sound business sense. Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (IACCGH) is a not for profit organization established in 1999. The mission of the Chamber is to be the “vehicle of economic development” for Indo-Americans in the U.S. and leverage a Global partnership between India and the United States.

IACCGH initiated a fact finding mission in October 2002 and the M D Anderson Cancer Center delegation led by founding President Durga Agrawal and President Ashok Shah (a ccompanied by Past President Ashoke Nath and Jagdip Ahluwalia) met Indian President Kalam and the then Health Minister Shatrughan Sinha. In March 2003 the IACCGH facilitated a seven member M D Anderson delegation to fly to Mumbai and Delhi. The Team consisting of Dr.’s Bharat Aggarwal, Suresh Reddy, Ann Gillenwater, Li Mao, Cliff Chao, Charles Lu, Jan S. Lewin, and administrator Karen Francis participated in a symposium on”Common Cancers In India: Evidence Based Management” at Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH).
