
Ajit Thakur has an established practice as a Certified Public Accountant in the Houston area that continues to be a positive impact on businesses and professionals. Ajit received his degree in commerce/accountancy from BMCC – Pune University in 1966. He became a Chartered Accountant in 1970. Ajit is licensed as a CPA in Texas since 1987… Ajit has over four decades of accounting and tax experience in industry and public practice. He has worked in positions such as Management Accountant, Chief Internal Auditor, Company Secretary and Financial Controller in diverse industries such as a MNC pharmaceutical company, an automobile manufacturer, a paper mill in India and a group of companies in Bahrain. In Texas he has practiced public accounting over last 25 years. He concentrates on multi-state and international tax issues for businesses and professionals.
Ajit Thakur is involved with the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce in Greater Houston, where he networks with businesses and professionals by taking an instrumental role in the Houston international business community. As 2012 President Ajit has come up with i-Chamber e-Chamber slogan where the Chamber has become more interactive by giving more say and ownership to the members and the community. This year the Chamber has reached out to communities in Clear Lake, Woodlands, and Sugar Land etc. He has worked with non profit community organizations like IIT Alumni, Indian Senior Citizens, Maharashtra Mandal, Gujarati Samaj and India House and ICC. Ajit has been instrumental in facilitating the process of numerous groups becoming 501(c) (3) organizations to better enhance the Houston community. Ajit works with his peers in professional organizations such as Texas Society of CPAs.
Ajit is married to Deepa Thakur a local attorney for over 40 years. Thakurs have a commitment to give back to the community. They are involved in numerous diverse community projects. Their passion is to volunteer time for social causes and includes (current and past) MD Anderson, St Lukes, United Way, Chambers of commerce, Indo-American organizations and temples. Ajit has also served on the Board of a United Way affiliates. He has also served on Houston CPA committees. Ajit has volunteered time for VITA program for about 15 years and served as Program Manager at Houston Downtown Library. In the 1990s he worked with Gujarati Samaj, Texas Commerce Bank and SBA in arranging Seminars at Gandhi Center. In 2003 Deepa and Ajit toured India and gave presentations to Indian businesses and professionals about opportunities in the USA. These seminars were arranged by Indo-American Chambers of Commerce of India.
